Most people never find their life purpose, so if you have no idea what yours is, then that is okay. It’s difficult to find. Most of us are just a cog in a wheel, working just to get by and pay the bills. Who has time to find a life purpose right? I get that, and I understand that. But you should still try to find your life purpose because not only will it bring you happiness and fulfillment, but your life purpose will benefit others as well.

What Is A Life Purpose?
A life purpose is something that you are passionate about doing, adds value to your life, and not only fulfills your needs, but the needs of others as well. It’s your life’s calling. You probably won’t find that exact definition in the dictionary but that is more or less what it means. Don’t confuse talent or skill with a life purpose. Although these things may lead you to your life purpose, or allow you to act on your life purpose, they may not be your life purpose. For example, Da Vinci was a great writer, an engineer, musician, architect and artist. These were his skills and talents, which were used to act on his life purpose, which was to inspire and innovate. See the difference?
This is important to remember because once you know what your life purpose is, you’ll find that there are many avenues that you can use to act upon it. You are not pigeonholed into one task or job. My life purpose is to motivate and inspire. Right now I create blog posts, make videos, write books, life coach and more to live my life purpose. In 20 years from now, I may do something else to motivate and inspire. So keep an open mind when thinking about your life’s calling.
How To Find Your Life Purpose
So how do you find your life purpose? There is no clear-cut way to find it. There are many ways, some of which may not work for you. I’m going to give 5 steps to what I think is an effective way to find your life purpose.
1 – Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone To Find Your Life Purpose
The first thing you must do to find your life purpose is to get out of your comfort zone. We all like to live in this little box. In this box, we live with all the things that make us comfortable. The foods we like to eat, the activities we like to do, the people we like to be around, etc. Outside the box, we keep all the things that we don’t like and all the things that are unknown to us. The truth is that, outside that little box of yours, may be your life purpose. There may be something out there, that will truly make you happy and you will never find it unless you get out of your comfort zone. So the first step is to learn how to get out of that box, try different things, and face your fears.
2 – What Do You Love?
Now that you know you must get out of your comfort zone, you need to ask yourself 4 questions to find your life purpose. The first is, “What Do I Love?” What do you like doing? Get out a pen and piece of paper, and write everything out. It doesn’t matter how silly or mundane or how big or fancy. Write down everything that comes to mind. Try to avoid vague answers like money. Write down what you can do with that money. Travel? Give to others? Spend more time with family? Once you have written all of those things on paper, rank them. Which things do you think the most about? What things get you the most excited? Your life purpose will end up being something that you can do that will keep you motivated and passionate.
3 – What Are You Good At?
The next thing you should ask yourself to find your life purpose is what you are good at. Just as you did before, write them down. The things you are good at, are an indication of your life purpose. Think outside the box on this as well. You don’t have to stick with the skill associated with your day job. You may be a programmer or teacher but a great writer.
Here is something to keep in mind about your skills, talents, and life purpose. Skill and talent are an indication of your life purpose but you are not stuck doing only things you are good at in this moment. After you discover your life purpose, you may want to develop a new skill to act on your calling. For instance, if you find that your life’s calling is to motivate others and you want to be a motivational speaker but suck at it, this doesn’t mean you can’t learn to be a motivational speaker. You can develop your public speaking skills.
4 – What Does The World Need?
Think to yourself about all the things this world needs. This is where getting out of your comfort zone will come into play. Getting out of your comfort zone will allow you to connect to the outside world. You’ll be more privy to the needs of those around you.
5 – What Can You Be Paid For?
Unfortunately, most of us do not have the privilege of forgoing all compensation. More likely than not, however, you’ll discover that you’ll be able to make money with your life purpose. If you can’t find something you can get paid for, you’ll end up doing something you don’t love just to pay the bills.
Conclusion
Once you ask yourself these questions you want to find a commonality among them. You must find that sweet spot.
Once you find that sweet spot, or place where all those answers connect, then that is your life purpose. It might not be easy, and you need to take some time on this, but it’s a great way to find something in your life that will bring you joy and provide value to others at the same time.
To find your life purpose you must get out of your comfort zone, try new things, and face your fears. Then you must ask yourself these questions: What do I love? What am I good at? What does the world need? Finally, ask, what can I be paid for? Then determine the connection between them all.
