Do you want to make life easier and less stressful? We all do, right? There are tons of tips out there, including on this website, that gives you some great ways to do it. If there was just one simple way to make life easier, however, it would be this: Give Up Control.
Give Up Control
Letting go of things you can’t control is one of the simplest ways to make life easier. When things don’t go our way, it causes us frustration, stress, and anxiety. I had a control issue in the past. I had to control even the smallest of things. I’m surprised I don’t have an ulcer by now. Thank goodness I’ve overcome this and so can you. How do you give up control and let things go? Here are 3 ways I did it.
3 Ways To Give Up Control And Make Life Easier
1 – Admit You Have A Control Issue
If you have always had a tendency to be controlling, be honest with yourself and admit you have an issue. When you can look in the mirror and realize you have a problem, you’ll be able to move on to the next step, which is doing something about it. I finally had to put myself in check. It got to the point where I would just ask myself, “why am I worried about this? It’s not my issue.”
2 – Tackle Your Fear
Trying to control things is rooted in fear. You need control because you are afraid of something happening or not happening. Figure out what this fear is and question it. Is it really going to happen? Is this really true?
Will the event be ruined if someone is late? Will your kid’s life really be a disaster if they forget to clean their room? Question your fear. When I was a bit younger and coordinated family events such as seeing a movie, I would nag them about having their tickets. I would obsess about them not bringing their tickets. I know it sounds silly but I was afraid our night out would be ruined. Would it really though? Would it have really been the end of the world? They could have bought new tickets, gone home to get them, or we could have done something else. Not really a big issue as I later learned. Start putting your fear into perspective.
3 – Surrender
Finally you just have to surrender and let things play out for themselves. You may have to take baby steps depending on your level of control behavior. Just remember that surrendering doesn’t mean you don’t care. It just means you are letting other people take care of things.
You can make life a whole lot easier just by giving up control. Make this a priority in your life. Not only will you be relieved that you don’t have to worry so much, but the people around you will thank you for it as well.
I used to be a control freak, are you or have you in the past? Let me know about it in the comments.
