Finding Inner Peace – 10 Smart Strategies

January 22, 2023
Finding Inner Peace

More and more people are suffering from higher levels of anxiety, depression, and stress than ever before. For this reason, we must be proactive in finding peace and calm wherever and whenever we can. Here are ten smart strategies for finding inner peace if you want tranquility and relaxation amidst the chaos.

1. Stop Sweating The Small Stuff To Find Inner Peace

Stop Sweating the Small Stuff to Find Inner Peace

We have too many big things to worry about than to sweat the small stuff. Don’t pile on your stress by letting little things get to you. Learning to differentiate between minor annoyances and things that matter will help you in finding inner peace. Someone cutting you off in traffic, your kid not cleaning their room on time, or a coworker making a snide remark, are small annoyances. A significant health issue, losing a job, and not being able to pay your bills are the real issues that require your time, energy, and attention.

Put things into perspective by creating an Importance Scale from one to ten. One is a tiny annoyance, and ten is a life-changing situation that needs your immediate attention. When something happens in the day that bothers you, give it a number on that scale. Anything five and below, let it go.

2. Stop People Pleasing

Stop People Pleasing for Peace

Nothing will keep you from finding inner peace more than people-pleasing will. People pleasers usually have limited time for themselves, they suffer from low energy, and people are more likely to take advantage of them. All of which can prevent you from finding inner peace.

If you struggle with pleasing others, it is essential that you learn to stop. Try setting boundaries and saying “no” more often. Learn to cultivate internal value instead of finding your value through others. Be assertive and stop letting others take advantage of you. If you cannot break the people-pleasing habit, finding inner peace will be very difficult.

3. Let Go of Perfectionism

Let Go of Perfectionism

Perfectionism can be a significant obstacle to finding inner peace. It can lead to anxiety, stress, and dissatisfaction with yourself and your life. Perfectionism is usually rooted in fear of failure or fear of not being good enough. It can cause us to focus on the negative aspects of our lives and become overwhelmed by them.

The key to finding inner peace is letting go of perfectionism. You can do this by learning to love and accept yourself just the way you are. We all have things about ourselves that we need to work on, but we have to start giving more attention to our strengths than we do to our flaws.

4. Unplug to Find Inner Peace

Turn Off Electronics

Finding inner peace can be as easy as flipping a switch. Spend at least 30 minutes a day unplugged from technology. Turn off your phone, computer, and TV, and spend that time reflecting or spending time with your family. Try not to give thought to social media or what is going on in the news. Give your mind a break from the constant stream of information you’ve been getting throughout the day.

5. Meditate or Sit Quietly

There is power and healing in doing absolutely nothing. Finding inner peace comes much easier in the quiet. Spend at least 15 minutes a day in peace and quiet to sit or meditate. While you do this, it’s crucial to refrain from thinking about your worries. Be in the moment, listen to your breathing, and reconnect with your body.

6. Find Inner Peace By Escaping Toxic People

Find Inner Peace by Escaping Toxic People

The people we spend our time with can affect the peace we have within ourselves. If there are toxic people that cause you stress and frustration, then aim to spend less time around them. It may not be possible to eliminate their company entirely, but the less you are around them, the more successful you will be in finding inner peace.

On the other hand, spend most of your time with people who support you and have a positive influence on your life. Doing this will help you feel at ease, positive, and at peace.

7. Walk Away For a Time To Find Inner Peace

Small Clock

You do not always have to solve your problems right away. Sometimes it’s better to let things go and come back to it later, especially when you are feeling overwhelmed. Just say to yourself, “I am not going to focus on this right now; I’ll come back to it later.” By walking away, you give yourself an opportunity to find inner peace. When you come back to it, you’ll be better able to mentally handle the situation.

8. Declutter

Declutter to find inner peace.

It can be hard finding inner peace when your environment is in disarray and chaotic. Things as simple as keeping your car clean, organizing your workspace, and decluttering your home will go a long way to help you find peace.

If you find it challenging to keep things decluttered, try taking a small-step approach. Each day, choose one thing to organize or clean. For example, bathrooms can be cleaned every Tuesday; laundry can be done on Wednesday; your car can be washed every Saturday, and so on. Taking this small-step approach will help you stay decluttered.

9. Let Go of Things You Can’t Control

Do not let things you can’t control steal your inner peace. It will always be a losing battle if you burden yourself with something you have no power over. Save yourself stress, anxiety, and frustration by letting things go. Instead, concentrate on things that are within your control.

A great way to let go of things you can’t control is to ask yourself questions. Ask yourself, “Can I do anything about this situation? If you can’t, then let it go. There is no use losing peace over it.

10. Get Out In Nature

Getting out in nature is one of the best ways to find inner peace. Nature has a calming effect on our minds and bodies, allowing us to relax and let go of stress and worries. Taking a walk in the park or going for a hike in the woods can help clear your mind and give you time to reflect on life.

Conclusion

Now more than ever, we need to focus on inner peace. The world will continue to be chaotic and stressful, but our internal self doesn’t have to be. Focus on these strategies when working towards finding inner peace. Stop sweating the small stuff, stop people pleasing, let go of perfectionism, unplug, and meditate. You can also escape toxic people, walk away, declutter, let go of things you can’t control, and get out in nature.
