If you want to achieve anything in life, whether that be good health, great relationships, an awesome career, or being happy for example, you must first believe you can attain it. It’s as simple as that. It all starts with a belief in yourself. Our external world is the result of the mental images we see over and over in our minds. If you can see it for yourself, then it will manifest in your outer world. Sounds simple enough, but far from easy. Especially when you are used to bad breaks, continuous setbacks, and disappointments. You can learn to believe in yourself and all that you are, however, and achieve and attain anything you can see for yourself. Here is how.
Here is Why You Should Believe In Yourself
Believing in yourself is extremely important. Here are a few reasons why.
It’s Easier to Deal with Ups and Downs
We will always face challenges in life. No one can escape struggles and hard times. When you develop a healthy dose of self-belief, it will help you get through the toughest storms. Because at the end of the day, you believe that you can make it through. When we don’t have this self-belief, things will get much worse. Deal with the ups and downs in life by believing in yourself.
You Embrace Change and Opportunities
One of the biggest regrets in people’s lives is that they didn’t “go for it.” Many times people avoid change or embracing amazing opportunities because they do not believe in themselves. So they never start that business or talk to that person, or chase their dreams. When you believe in yourself, you’ll be more willing to go for it and try.
Success Is Inevitable if You Believe In Yourself
If you believe in yourself, success is inevitable. That doesn’t mean you experience failure. You will. When you do, however, you’ll be able to get back up and keep going. Sooner or later, you will achieve the results that you want. Whether that be a better career, healthier relationships, or making more money, believing in yourself will help you get there.
Now that you know why it is important for you to believe in who you are and your abilities, here are some strategies that will help.
Strategies To Believe In Yourself and All That You Are
1 – Remember Your Past Successes
To believe in yourself and all that you are you must first remember your many successes. We spend so much time focusing on our failures in life that our achievements tend to slip through the cracks. It’s time to put your successes center stage. Think long and hard about the successes you’ve had in your life, no matter how small. Did you win a goldfish at your school carnival? Did you hit a home run for your little league team? What about a project at work that you helped complete? Every day we have so many successes and they just fall by the wayside.
Before bed each night, journal about all the achievements you’ve had that day. As you fill your journal, you’ll start to believe in yourself again. If you accomplished something in the past, you can accomplish something again. You are not a book of failures you are a full journal of successes.
2 – Develop a Supportive Internal Dialogue
You will never be able to believe in yourself and all that you are if you constantly beat yourself up. Talking to yourself with phrases such as, “I will never achieve this,” “I’m not good enough,” or, “Life is just out to get me,” will keep you stuck and living in fear and failure. You can experience more success and happiness right now just by changing the way you talk to yourself. Use more supportive phrases such as, “I can do this,” “I may not see a way, but I know there is a way,” or “I’m capable of achieving anything I put my mind to.”
Start paying attention to the things you tell yourself throughout the day. If you catch yourself saying negative, self-deprecating things, stop and immediately replace them with positive, supportive words. Imagine a close friend started verbally beating themselves up in front of you, what would you say to them? You’d probably stop them and tell them something like, “what are you talking about you are awesome!” Use that same support when talking to yourself.
3- Believe In Yourself and All That You Are by Surrounding Yourself with Supportive People
You’ll find it hard to believe in yourself if people around you do not believe in you. Do not spend another moment of your precious time around others who do not fully support you 100%. We need people in our lives who will lift us up and believe in us when we don’t believe in ourselves. We need people who will look past our mistakes and failures and see our potential. If there is someone in your life who is like that, then aim to spend more time with them. On the other hand, if there is someone in your life who makes you feel less than and reminds you of all of your failures, then spend less time with them or cut them off completely.
4 – Accomplish One Small Goal at a Time
Success breeds success. As you reach each achievement, the belief that you have in yourself will grow. What small goals can you set that will give you the confidence to keep going? For instance, instead of focusing on a larger goal of losing 30 pounds, why not focus on losing one pound? After you have successfully lost one, you can set a goal to lose another pound. If you want to start your own business and leave your 9 to 5, what one small goal can you achieve? Perhaps it is to get your business plan going or test the waters with potential customers. Whatever it is, focus more on micro-goals in every area of your life. Every goal you accomplish will move you one step closer to being able to believe in yourself and all that you are.
5 – Remember How Tough You Are
“Remember, you survived 100% of your worst days.”
I love that quote. It’s a reminder of how far we have come. You’ve gotten through rough times before, and you were able to pull through despite the odds. You were strong enough to overcome and succeed then, what makes you think you can’t do it this time? You have to remember how tough you are, and that you are still here and you are still standing. Dig your heels in, toughen up, and believe you can do whatever it is you want to do.
6 – Believe In Yourself By Challenging Your Limiting Beliefs
What beliefs are holding you back right now? Figure out what they are and then challenge them. I have some acting buddies who struggle with the belief that they aren’t talented enough to land a starring role. I told them they never will if they do not challenge these beliefs. I ask them, are there less talented people than you in a starring role? Yes definitely. Have you ever landed a main character gig before? Yes. Give me every reason why you think you aren’t talented enough? They fail to produce hard facts.
Limiting beliefs often have no real facts behind them. Just by challenging them with questions, you will begin to break down these beliefs. Ask yourself, what are the facts behind why I believe I can’t do this? Was this belief ever proven false in my life? What belief would I like to have? Challenge your limiting beliefs and learn to believe in yourself and your abilities.
Conclusion
If you want to achieve success and happiness, you must learn to believe in yourself and all that you are. Remember your past successes, change your internal dialogue, and surround yourself with supportive people. You should also try to accomplish one small goal at a time, remember how tough you are, and challenge your limiting beliefs.
