Many people struggle with social anxiety. If you want a little help being confident around others or, at the very least, not having a breakdown when surrounded by others, here are some ways you can become socially confident.
How To Be More Socially Confident
1 – Get Out There and Face Your Fears
Sometimes you have to rip the bandaid off and put yourself out there. Start accepting invitations to do things or, better yet, invite others to hang out with you. If you are nervous about saying hi to people, go for it anyway and speak up the next time someone is around. What you’ll find is that you’ll become more socially confident the more you do this.
2 – Know Your Self-Worth
Start realizing that you are valuable and you have a lot to offer. Everyone is different, but no one is better. We all have our own strengths and we all have flaws.
3 – Be a Good Friend To Yourself
The more you treat yourself with kindness, the more you’ll expect it from others. The opposite is also true. If you constantly put yourself down, it will be hard to accept that others will think differently. Being socially confident begins with how you treat yourself. Show yourself some love and kindness.
4 – Find Like-Minded People to Be Around
Don’t try to put a square peg into a round hole. If you feel awkward or out of place around some people, there may be a legitimate reason other than you not being socially confident. Find people who are more like you and share the same interests. You may find it hard to be around car guys or athletes if all you can think about is coding or taking down dragons. It’ll be easier to feel at ease around others if you are with people more like you.
5 – Fake It Till You Make It
There are some social skills that you can work on while you become more comfortable inside. For instance, learn how to actively listen. Use feedback loops to engage with others. Look people in the eye and stand tall. These are simple things you can do, albeit scary for some, to be more socially confident.
