Let’s be honest, some people just drive us nuts. No matter what we do, they just cannot get off of our crap list. This is normal. Even for the most kind, patient, and forgiving of us, there will always be someone who just rubs us the wrong way. Here are some tips on how to deal with someone you don’t like.
“Don’t let anyone’s hate and ignorance stop you from being the best person you can be.”
6 Tips To Deal With Someone You Don’t Like
1. See It As A Test
View this person as a test. We don’t grow and get better when everything is peachy. We become more patient, wise and understanding when we are tested. See this person as nothing more than a reason for you to be a better person and to become more refined.
2. Limit Your Time With Them
I’m assuming you are reading this because you can’t avoid them completely. Maybe it’s a close family member or a co-worker. If this is the case, do everything you can to limit the amount of time you have to deal with them. Don’t go to the break room when they are there. Don’t sit close to them in a meeting. Grab yourself another soda at the family BBQ. Do what you can to put some space between the two of you.
3. Be Realistic
Don’t fall into the trap of assuming everyone should be to your liking. There are probably people out there who can’t stand you either, no matter how nice you are. It’s just a part of life. Stressing over why someone is not the way you want them to be is a waste of time and energy. Accept the way things are and that you will probably always have to deal with someone you don’t like.
4. Smile and Nod
Always take the high road in any situation. When someone is trying to put you down and call you out, it is because of their own insecurities. They are threatened by you so be cordial and act with integrity. In the end, you will feel better about yourself. Smile and nod.
5. Keep Your Emotions in Check
Don’t let your emotions get the best of you when you have to deal with someone you don’t like. Stay calm and think positive. If you find that you are starting to get upset, take a moment to breathe and go to a happy place in your mind.
6. Set Boundaries
Even though you are taking a proactive approach to deal with someone you don’t like, you are still entitled to respect. Set boundaries and kindly let the person know when they cross them. These tips are to help you deal, not accept being treated unfairly.
Unfortunately you will have to deal with someone you don’t like. When this happens, don’t let yourself feel defeated and frustrated. Follow these 6 tips, and you will be better prepared to handle any situation.
